Silver-containing ointment dressings made of hydrophobic polyamide lattice tulle, with fibres coated with elemental silver; they have an antibacterial effect against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria when in direct contact with the dressing; particularly soft and good drapable, does not stick to the wound. The ointment mass contains: Ester mixture of natural or vegetable fatty acids, bound as di- and triglycerides, Macrogol 2000.

Full description

Hydrophobic polyester fibres with 1mm pore size
• Prevents granulation tissue from penetrating the dressing, minimising pain and trauma on removal
• Allows the flow of exudate and air
• Provides high conformability

Neutral triglyceride impregnation
• Does not contain Vaseline or Paraffin, leaving the wound residue free
• Keeps wound margin soft and supple, avoiding scar tissue contraction
• Enhances non-adherent properties, minimising pain and trauma on removal

“Touch & Kill” active antibacterial effect
• When in contact with wound exudate, Atrauman Ag forms silver ions on its surface, killing bacteria on contact.
• Wound exudate, dead bacteria and endotoxins are absorbed by the secondary dressing
• Silver ions are kept within the dressing where they bind to and destroy bacteria. Due to this local restriction of silver ion release, cytotoxicity of Atrauman Ag is very low

Atrauman® Ag consists of a coarsely woven water repellent polyamide textile, impregnated with neutral triglycerides. It is coated with metallic silver which is chemically bound – firmly fixed to the support fabric.
The anti bacterial action of Atrauman® Ag has been tested in extensive microbiological in-vitro tests following standardised test procedures. The laboratory tests confirm rapid and long lasting efficacy of the impregnated tulle dressing containing silver on a wide spectrum of bacteria.

Atrauman® Ag is only bactericidal upon direct contact with bacteria. Due to its mode of action, in which the large majority of silver ions remain within the dressing and only small concentrations reach the wound, cytotoxicity is kept to a minimum.

Combination with secondary dressings
As with other primary dressings, Atrauman® Ag is used in combination with a secondary dressing. In laboratory tests carried out to the Standard Test Method of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colourists (AATCC 100), in addition to a practice test, Atrauman® Ag can be used with hydroactive as well as traditional wound dressings.

Atrauman® Ag can be successfully used in combination with the following dressings:
• Calcium alginate (e.g. Sorbalgon)
• Traditional swabs
• Foam dressings (e.g. PermaFoam)
• Absorbent wound dressing pad (e.g Zetuvit E)

Atrauman® Ag avoids adherence to wounds, provides care for the surrounding skin and is bactericidal only when in contact with bacteria.

For the treatment of critically colonised or infected wounds. Atrauman® Ag is not intended to replace antibiotic therapy, but may be used as a complementary measure.

Atrauman® Ag is suitable for deep wounds.
